Dr Gareth Atkins

Gareth Atkins is Fellow and Joint Director of Studies in History at Magdalene College, Cambridge. He works on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century religious culture in Britain, and has published widely on evangelical identity and on religion in the Royal Navy. His first monograph, on evangelical networking in late-Hanoverian politics and public life, is forthcoming. He has held visiting fellowships at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, and at the Institute for Historical Research, London, and is currently part of a five-year ERC-funded research project, ‘The Bible and Antiquity in Nineteenth-Century Culture’, based at CRASSH in Cambridge, where he is developing a new project on the reception and presentation of King David in modern Britain.
